Moissanite is a lab-created crystalline material made from silicon carbide. It is not a lab-grown diamond. Its strong brilliance and fire make it a popular option for iced watches and statement jewellery, but the stone identity, sizes, setting style and supporting documentation still need to be written into the order.
Moissanite, lab-grown diamond and natural diamond
These materials can all be visually bright, but they differ in composition, market value and documentation. Moissanite is silicon carbide. Lab-grown and natural diamonds are both crystalline carbon, with different origins. A product title or handheld tester result is not enough to collapse those categories into one.
The written specification should name the stone type, intended sizes or shapes, setting pattern and any grading or report requirement. Small accent stones and centre stones may have different documentation positions, so the expectation should be agreed before payment.
What a tester can and cannot establish
Some thermal testers can react to both diamond and moissanite. A positive response therefore does not prove that a stone is diamond, nor does it establish origin, clarity, colour or weight. More specific instruments and independent reports may be required when the distinction is commercially important.
