Three stone terms that must not be blended

Moissanite is silicon carbide and is not diamond. Lab-grown diamond and natural diamond are crystalline carbon with different origins. The phrase “moissanite diamond” is not used as a material description because it merges separate categories and can mislead buyers.

An order should identify the selected stone, relevant shapes or sizes, setting position and the documentation requirement. If the source position changes, the buyer must approve that change before the specification or price is updated.

Testing, reports and marketing claims

A handheld tester result can be useful but may not distinguish moissanite from diamond and does not establish origin, clarity, colour or carat weight. Claims such as certified, VVS, natural or lab-grown need an identified evidence basis for the piece.

Independent reports commonly apply to identified centre stones rather than every small stone in an iced surface. Ask which stones are covered, which laboratory issued the report and whether report numbers can be matched to the supplied item.

Metal purity, colour and plated finishes

Gold colour does not prove solid gold. The specification should distinguish metal type, stated purity where applicable, base metal, plating system and finish colour. Listed weights need a clear label so gross weight is not confused with precious-metal or stone weight.

Wear, cleaning and repair guidance depends on the construction. Plated surfaces generally require gentler handling than solid metal, while stone-set jewellery needs care around settings and impact. Product-specific care and support terms are confirmed with the order.
